Downers Grove Oral Surgeon
Specialist in removing teeth, wisdom teeth (3rd molars), dental implants and bone grafts.

Dr. Steven C. Oltean DDS,

Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon

About Our Services

We will help prepare you for your dental surgery and for the days following surgery.

This includes getting necessary digital x-rays for diagnosis, fully explaining your options, planning for and carrying out the surgery, delivering post-operative instruction and providing all appropriate follow-up care.

Furthermore, Dr. Oltean is always available to patients and has an after-hours answering service for their convenience.

Many of our patients have insurance coverage through plans such as MetLife Dental, Delta Dental of Illinois, Cigna Dental Healthcare, Guardian, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Big Blue and others. However, today's standard insurance plans all too often fall far short of meeting the actual cost of modern dental care.

And even though our fees remain reasonable -- we specifically work for our patients rather than for any insurance company, and payments prior to treatment must therefore be expected. We will gladly offer extended payment plans to help even those without insurance coverage to access quality dental care.

About Patient Comfort

Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons are specifically trained, licensed and experienced in the administration of local and intravenous anesthesia and the treatment of anxiety. Dr. Oltean will discuss with you different anesthetic options and help you choose the one most suitable.

Here is a brief description of the various types of sedation we routinely use:
IV (Intravenous) Sedation. Using a sedative administered by IV in a thoroughly monitored setting, patients are able to safely sleep through procedures -- thus allowing for maximum comfort. (Insurance often doesn't cover this portion.)

Nitrous Oxide. "Happy Gas" or "Laughing Gas" is an intermediate form of sedation that we use, and allows for much-relaxed communication during procedures. (Insurance often doesn't cover this portion.)

Local Anesthesia. Novocaine may be used by itself, or in combination with either of the above, to numb the area in preparing it for necessary treatment.

In general, no food or drink should be consumed in the six hours preceding any surgery. Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing with sleeves that can be easily rolled up is always best. Patients must have someone accompanying them if intravenous anesthesia is to be used.

Top Ten Healthy Reasons For Removing Wisdom Teeth ...

Reason #10.  Even if symptoms aren't present, the difficulties of keeping surrounding gum tissue clean increases your chances for gum inflammation or infection.

Reason #9.  Research suggests that these sorts of gum problems may cause some expectant mothers to deliver preterm or low birthweight babies.

Reason #8.  Even those rare wisdom teeth which erupt fully through the gums rarely serve a useful purpose in the mouth -- and remain very difficult to keep clean.

Reason #7.  Impacted wisdom teeth can develop associated cysts and even tumors, leading to the need for costly remedial treatment.

Reason #6.  The longer wisdom tooth extraction is deferred, the more likely it is that removal will meet with age-related complications.

Reason #5.  Receding gums aren't anyone's idea of "sexy" -- and the gum disease so often associated with wisdom teeth isn't therefore anything to disregard!

Reason #4.  Wisdom teeth are quite unpopular with other teeth due to their "pushy" natures.

Reason #3.  The sorts of gum infections associated with unresolved wisdom teeth are now even thought to be involved in diabetes and cardiovascular disease!

Reason #2.  The sooner you get unhealthy wisdom teeth taken care of -- the easier and faster will be your recovery.

Reason #1.  Peace of mind. It's a truly great thing!
